Located in the Kensington area on the edge of Hyde Park, the Royal Albert Hall is one of the most famous concert halls in the world. It is a very striking building, because the building and hall have the round shape of an ancient amphitheatre.
The Royal Albert Hall was opened in 1871 by Queen Victoria and was named after her husband Prince Albert. Unfortunately, he was not allowed to experience the opening of the hall because he died before that time. Near the Royal Albert Hall, in Hyde Park, is a memorial to Prince Albert.
the Royal Albert Hall has become famous for the Proms, a series of summer concerts that have taken place annually since 1941. The series concludes with the Last Night of the Proms on the second Saturday in September.
