Abbey Road, just another street in London. But for fans of the Beatles this is a completely different story, they know the street and especially the crossing all too well from the Abbey Road album of the same name. The album was so named because of the location of the studio on Abbey Road.
The Abbey Road is a street between Westminster and Camden, not far from Regents Park. The Abbey Road studio, which still exists, can be found at 3 Abbey Road. The studio is also still very popular with tourists. In addition to the Beatles, Pink Floyd, the Shadows, Oasis and the Spice Girls have also recorded material here.
the famous crossing
the famous crossing can be found diagonally opposite the Abbey Road studio. The crossing is still regularly used by fans and other tourists to imitate the album cover, which sometimes results in dangerous traffic situations. The great thing is that there is also a webcam that has live images of the crossing place 24 hours a day, which you can find here. It’s very funny to watch the webcam for a while because you almost constantly see tourists trying to cross the street, while someone else is taking a picture.
how do you get there?
St John’s Wood underground station.
from the station walk 500m west on Grove End Road. Then turn right towards Abbey Road. The studio and the crosswalk can be found just after the intersection.
