the Tower Bridge

the Tower Bridge is a famous bridge over the River Thames. Only when you see it in reality do you fully realize what an impressive bridge Tower Bridge is. The Tower Bridge is located next to the Tower of London and it also owes its name to it.

The bridge was built in 1894 by Horace Jones because at that time it was desperately needed to create a crossing point over the Thames in East London. Unique was that the bridge had a mechanism with which it could be opened in 3 minutes. Today the bridge still opens 1000 times a year, about 10 times a day in the summer.

At the top of Tower Bridge is the Tower Bridge Exhibition, which explains everything. New is an 11-metre-long glass floor with a view through which you can walk over at a height of 42 metres. At the end you will end up in the Engine Rooms where the Steam Engines that Tower Bridge once used can be admired. In 1976 these were replaced by electronic equipment.
