In the middle of the busy Canary Wharf is an oasis of peace: the Crossrail Place Roof Garden. This is a beautiful botanic garden built on top of an Elizabeth Line station. In the garden there are several benches to sit on. The garden also offers views of the surrounding area, including the River Thames and the city skyline. The garden is free to visit.
Very special is that the Crossrail Place Roof Garden is located exactly on the zero meridian. The plants are arranged according to the hemisphere they come from, ferns from the United States in the western part and bamboo from Asia in the eastern part. see this infographic for more information.
The garden is about 300 meters long and completely covered. The transparent wooden lattice roof consists of 780 triangular cushions filled with air. Air flows freely through the roof and natural irrigation reaches the plants through it.
